Compare `git add .` vs `git add -A`

git add . vs git add -A

Both of these will stage all files, including new files (which git commit -a misses) and deleted files.

The difference is that git add -A also stages files in higher directories that still belong to the same git repository. Here's an example:

/my-repo
  .git/
 subfolder/

You Don't Need A Blockchain

You don't need a blockchain.

If you're reading this, you probably suggested to somebody that a particular technical problem could be solved with a blockchain.

Blockchains aren't a desirable thing; they're defined by having trustless consensus, which necessarily has to involve some form of costly signaling to work; that's what prevents attacks like sybil attacks.

In other words: blockchains must be expensive to operate, to work effectively. This makes it a last-resort solution, when you truly have no other options available for solving your problem; in almost every case you want a cheaper and less complex solution than a blockchain.

In particular, if your usecase is commercial, then you do not need or want trustless consensus. This especially includes usecases like supply chain tracking, ticketing, and so on. The whole *p

Adding & Updating GitHub Access Token on Mac

Using an Access Token for the first time

Follow the instructions on Github to Create an Access Token in Github

Configure Git to use the osxkeychain

By default, git credentials are not cached so you need to tell Git if you want to avoid having to provide them each time Github requires you to authenticate. On Mac, Git comes with an “osxkeychain” mode, which caches credentials in the secure keychain that’s attached to your system account.

You can tell Git you want to store credentials in the osxkeychain by running the following:-

# Luke's config for the Zoomer Shell
# Enable colors and change prompt:
autoload -U colors && colors
PS1="%B%{$fg[red]%}[%{$fg[yellow]%}%n%{$fg[green]%}@%{$fg[blue]%}%M %{$fg[magenta]%}%~%{$fg[red]%}]%{$reset_color%}$%b "
# History in cache directory:
HISTSIZE=10000
SAVEHIST=10000
HISTFILE=~/.cache/zsh/history

Change your profile photo for all meetup groups

I haven't found a way to set your main profile photo on meetup.com such that it overrides any old photos you have set in individual groups. This script will do just that — set your group specific profile photo to your main photo for every group you're in.

Here's what to do:

  1. Go to your main profile page: http://www.meetup.com/profile/
  2. Ensure you've set your main profile photo to the photo you want to use in all your groups.
  3. Open your browser's developer tools (often F12 on Windows, cmd+opt+i on macOS), copy the following code, paste it in the Console tab, and press enter:
(async function() {

DIY: Hybrid Lightning Node - Mainnet & Testnet

The goal of this gist is to provide the pleb community with an easy to follow guide for how to setup a lightning node that runs on both Mainnet and Testnet at the same time. This guide will also walk you through setting up your node in "hybrid mode" (i.e. clearnet + tor) and installing Tunnel SATS for your static clearnet IP.

Acknowledgments: Parts of this guide were taken from the Run-LND repo by Alex Bosworth.

Example commands are given from the perspective of running Ubuntu on a Raspberry Pi.
