Extend Gitlab access token expiry dates

Extend Gitlab Access Tokens

Gitlab enforced token expiry limits to 365 days last year, and the time is now upon us.

They don't have an opt-out for this, and haven't provided a way to easily extend tokens in the web interface. They have also gated their credential management interface behind their Ultimate license.

This quickly thrown together script will allow you to add an extra year to all tokens that expire in the next 30 days. It will not reactivate tokens that have already expired.

Requires the python-gitlab module. Edit your self-hosted Gitlab instance details into the script and run it. It will dump out CSVs of all expiring tokens, and then dump out a list of commands you can paste into a gitlab-rails console session to extend the expiry date by another year. If you need them to be active for longer, change 1.year.from_now to the value of your choice, e.g. `10.years.fro

Google MyActivity YouTube Comment Delete Script 💬❌

CommentCleanser for YouTube 💬❌

Description

Looking to take control of your digital history? CommentCleanser for YouTube lets you efficiently delete old YouTube comments from Google's MyActivity. Prioritize the removal of older comments, ensuring a leaner digital footprint and a conscious cleanup of your online history.

The script has been designed for users who have a significant number of YouTube comments and wish to delete them in bulk from Google's MyActivity page. By leveraging JavaScript, it provides a means to automate the process of deleting individual comments, offering the user control over how many comments to delete at once.

How to recover lost Python source code if it's still resident in-memory

How to recover lost Python source code if it's still resident in-memory

I screwed up using git ("git checkout --" on the wrong file) and managed to delete the code I had just written... but it was still running in a process in a docker container. Here's how I got it back, using https://pypi.python.org/pypi/pyrasite/ and https://pypi.python.org/pypi/uncompyle6

Attach a shell to the docker container

Install GDB (needed by pyrasite)

apt-get update && apt-get install gdb

Connecting a Bluetooth device for serial communication on Arch Linux.

The following are instructions for connecting a Bluetooth device for serial communication on Arch Linux using BlueZ 5.31.

Prerequisites

The following packages are required:

  • bluez: bluetoothd
  • bluez-utils: bluetoothctl, rfcomm

There are three easy to make mistakes in go. I present them here in the way they are often found in the wild, not in the way that is easiest to understand.

All three of these mistakes have been made in Kubernetes code, getting past code review at least once each that I know of.

  1. Loop variables are scoped outside the loop.

What do these lines do? Make predictions and then scroll down.

func print(pi *int) { fmt.Println(*pi) }

Long Live CoffeeScript and Long Live ES6

Long Live CoffeeScript and Long Live ES6

Clearly ES6 is a huge improvement over ES5, and tools like [6to5][] allow us to use these cool features now. I was reading [Replace CoffeeScript with ES6][replace coffeescript] by [Blake Williams][] and thought it was a great summary of how ES6 solves many of the same problems that CoffeeScript solves; however I'd like to comment on a few of Blake's points and talk about why I'll be sticking with CoffeeScript.

Classes

Classes in ES6 (like many of the syntax changes in ES6) are very similar to the CoffeeScript equivalent. To support browsers that are not fully ES5 compliant (e.g. IE8-), however, we still can't really use getters/setters, so ignoring these the comparison is:

Testing a pull request, then merging locally; and avoiding TOCTOU

It's not immediately obvious how to pull down the code for a PR and test it locally. But it's pretty easy. (This assumes you have a remote for the main repo named upstream.)

Getting the PR code

  1. Make note of the PR number. For example, Rod's latest is PR #37: Psiphon-Labs/psiphon-tunnel-core#37

  2. Fetch the PR's pseudo-branch (or bookmark or rev pointer whatever the word is), and give it a local branch name. Here we'll name it pr37:

$ git fetch upstream pull/37/head:pr37
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>

<color name="red_100">#f9bdbb</color>
