Simple Authentication in Rail 4 Using Bcrypt

#Simple Authentication with Bcrypt

This tutorial is for adding authentication to a vanilla Ruby on Rails app using Bcrypt and has_secure_password.

The steps below are based on Ryan Bates's approach from Railscast #250 Authentication from Scratch (revised).

You can see the final source code here: repo. I began with a stock rails app using rails new gif_vault

Create and manage a case-sensitive disk-image on OSX. This is great when you have a need to work with case-sensitive repos on a mac.
#!/bin/bash
# where to store the sparse-image
WORKSPACE=~/Documents/workspace.dmg.sparseimage
create() {
hdiutil create -type SPARSE -fs 'Case-sensitive Journaled HFS+' -size 60g -volname workspace ${WORKSPACE}
}
detach() {

Resources I consulted when preparing my presentation "Beneath the Surface: Embracing the True Power of Regular Expressions in Ruby"
All of these resources were extremely valuable as I researched regex, finite state machines, and regex in Ruby. Check them out, they're full of fantastic information!

Place this in ~/.git_template/hooks/pre-commit and chmod to 755. Now, ensure you have git >= 1.7.1 and run: git config --global init.templatedir '~/.git_template' Back in your repository, run git init again and the hook will appear.
