The Dockerfile used by the new Datasette Publish to generate images that are smaller than 100MB
FROM python:3.6-slim-stretch as csvbuilder
# This one uses csvs-to-sqlite to compile the DB, and then uses datasette
# inspect to generate inspect-data.json Compiling pandas takes way too long
# under alpine so we use slim-stretch for this one instead.
RUN apt-get update && apt-get install -y python3-dev gcc
COPY *.csv csvs/
RUN pip install csvs-to-sqlite datasette
RUN csvs-to-sqlite csvs/names.csv data.db -f "name" -c "legislature" -c "country"

docker cleanup guide: containers, images, volumes, networks

Docker - How to cleanup (unused) resources

Once in a while, you may need to cleanup resources (containers, volumes, images, networks) ...

delete volumes

// see: https://github.com/chadoe/docker-cleanup-volumes

$ docker volume rm $(docker volume ls -qf dangling=true)

$ docker volume ls -qf dangling=true | xargs -r docker volume rm

Meteor Alternatives Per Feature

This table was created in 2015 so may be quite outdated today.

Feature Meteor Solution Alternative Solutions Description
Live DB Sync [livequery][lq] ([mongo-oplog]), [ddp] RethinkDB, Redis, ShareDB, [npm:mongo-oplog], [firebase], etc. Push DB updates to client/server.
Latency Compensation, Optimistic UI [minimongo][mm] [RethinkDB][lcr], [mWater/minimongo] (fork, not ws but http, browserify) Imitate successful db query on client before it is done.
Isomorphic Code [isobuild] & isopacks browserify Write one code for server/client/mobile.
Isomorphic Packaging [isobuild], atmosphere No more separate packages for server & client. Get bower + npm + mobile.

Event-stream based GraphQL subscriptions for real-time updates

In this gist I would like to describe an idea for GraphQL subscriptions. It was inspired by conversations about subscriptions in the GraphQL slack channel and different GH issues, like #89 and #411.

Conceptual Model

At the moment GraphQL allows 2 types of queries:

  • query
  • mutation

Reference implementation also adds the third type: subscription. It does not have any semantics yet, so here I would like to propose one possible semantics interpretation and the reasoning behind it.
