Steps to integrate experimented JSC

Intro

Here are the steps to integrate experimented JavaScriptCore. Hopefully this could solve the JSC crash issue on RN 0.59.

Steps (for RN 0.59)

  1. yarn add 'jsc-android@next'
  2. Modify build.gradle files.
diff --git a/android/app/build.gradle b/android/app/build.gradle

A Gentle Introduction to Prepack, Part 1

Note:

When this guide is more complete, the plan is to move it into Prepack documentation.
For now I put it out as a gist to gather initial feedback.

A Gentle Introduction to Prepack (Part 1)

If you're building JavaScript apps, you might already be familiar with some tools that compile JavaScript code to equivalent JavaScript code:

  • Babel lets you use newer JavaScript language features, and outputs equivalent code that targets older JavaScript engines.

Is Prepack like Svelte?

Note: I'm not involved in Prepack in any way — please correct me if I say anything incorrect below!

A few people have asked me if Prepack and Svelte are similar projects with similar goals. The answer is 'no, they're not', but let's take a moment to explore why.

What is Prepack?

Prepack describes itself as a 'partial evaluator for JavaScript'. What that means is that it will run your code in a specialised interpreter that, rather than having some effect on the world (like printing a message to the console), will track the effects that would have happened and express them more directly.

So for example if you give it this code...

#Android and CI and Gradle (A How-To)
There are tech stacks in this world that make it dead simple to integrate a <abbr title="Continuous Integration">CI</abbr> build system. <br>
The Android platform is not one of them.
Although Gradle is getting better, it's still a bit non-deterministic, and some of the fixes you'll need will start to feel more like black magic than any sort of programming.
But fear not! It can be done!
Before we embark on our journey, you'll need a few things to run locally:

Resize a Hard Disk for a Virtual Machine

Our Virtual Machines are provisioned using Vagrant from a Linux base box to run using VirutalBox. If the Hard Disk space runs out and you cannot remove files to free-up space, you can resize the Hard Disk using some VirtualBox and Linux commands.

Some assumptions

The following steps assume you've got a set-up like mine, where:
