Efficient matrix multiplication

High-Performance Matrix Multiplication

This is a short post that explains how to write a high-performance matrix multiplication program on modern processors. In this tutorial I will use a single core of the Skylake-client CPU with AVX2, but the principles in this post also apply to other processors with different instruction sets (such as AVX512).

Intro

Matrix multiplication is a mathematical operation that defines the product of

Use ffmpeg and mp4box to prepare DASH-AVC/264 v1.0 VoD
See my DASH-IF presentation from October, 2014:
https://s3.amazonaws.com/misc.meltymedia/dash-if-reveal/index.html#/
1. encode multiple bitrates with keyframe alignment:
ffmpeg -i ~/Movies/5D2_Portrait.MOV -s 1280x720 -c:v libx264 -b:v 1450k -bf 2 \
-g 90 -sc_threshold 0 -c:a aac -strict experimental -b:a 96k -ar 32000 out.mp4
My input was 30 fps = 3000 ms. If it were 29.97, then a GOP size of 90 frames will yield a base segment
size of 3003 milliseconds. You can make the segment size some multiple of this, e.g.: 6006, 9009, 12012.

Vagrant tutorial

Vagrant Setup

This tutorial guides you through creating your first Vagrant project.

We start with a generic Ubuntu VM, and use the Chef provisioning tool to:

  • install packages for vim, git
  • create user accounts, as specified in included JSON config files
  • install specified user dotfiles (.bashrc, .vimrc, etc) from a git repository

Afterwards, we'll see how easy it is to package our newly provisioned VM
