Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan Setup

Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan

Custom recipe to get OS X 10.11 El Capitan running from scratch, setup applications and developer environment. This is very similar (and currently mostly the same) as my 10.10 Yosemite setup recipe (as found on this gist https://gist.github.com/kevinelliott/0726211d17020a6abc1f). Note that I expect this to change significantly as I install El Capitan several times.

I use this gist to keep track of the important software and steps required to have a functioning system after a semi-annual fresh install. On average, I reinstall each computer from scratch every 6 months, and I do not perform upgrades between distros.

This keeps the system performing at top speeds, clean of trojans, spyware, and ensures that I maintain good organizational practices for my content and backups. I highly recommend this.

You are encouraged to fork this and modify it to your heart's content to match your own needs.

Install ImageMagick from source on Amazon Linux

I needed a newer version of ImageMagick than is available on the yum packages on Amazon Linux. I tried using the remi repo but it failed with dependency errors. Here is what I did to install ImageMagick with support for PNG, JPG, and TIFF.

download the most recent package

wget http://www.imagemagick.org/download/ImageMagick.tar.gz

uncomress the package

Adding back the #wait_until to Capybara v2+ gem. Can probably be adapted for cucumber tests.
# add this file capybara_wait_until.rb to your /test directory
module Capybara
class Session
##
#
# Retry executing the block until a truthy result is returned or the timeout time is exceeded
#
# @param [Integer] timeout The amount of seconds to retry executing the given block
#
# Rack middleware that drops non properly encoded cookies that would hurt the ActionDispatch::Cookies middleware.
#
# This is actually a hotfix for issues

# * https://github.com/rails/rails/issues/2622
module CleanCookies
# Tests whether a string may be decoded as a form component
def decodable?(string)
URI.decode_www_form_component(string)
