Install Windows 11 in a virtual machine on macOS with an M1 CPU

Based on https://docs.getutm.app/guides/windows/

  1. You will need:
    • A Windows 10 or Windows 11 license key;
    • UTM for Mac - the App Store version is offered as a way to support the developers, since it's paid, but has the same features as the free build.
  2. Obtain scripts that bootstrap an arm64 Windows 11 22H2 (I've chosen Windows Home edition and not Pro);
  3. brew install aria2 cabextract wimlib cdrtools minacle/chntpw/chntpw;
  4. cd into the directory extracted in step 1 and bash uup_download_macos.sh - this will produce an ISO;
  5. In the UTM app, create a new “Virtualize” machine and mount the ISO file from the previous step;
  6. Check “Install drivers and SPICE tools”;

Very quick ruby script to create a bash script that will create a montage of your org.
# Set OCTOKIT_ACCESS_TOKEN to authenticate with a PAT
# Something like OCTOKIT_ACCESS_TOKEN=<<TOKEN>> bundle exec ruby create-org-montage-script.rb
require "octokit"
Octokit.auto_paginate = true
# Replace <<ORG_NAME>> with your GitHub org
members = Octokit.org_members "<<ORG_NAME>>"

PR Comment Emojis

Any top-level comment on pull request ought be tagged with one of four emojis:

  • for a non-blocking comment that asks for clarification. The pull request author must answer the question before the pull request is merged, but does not have to wait for the comment author to re-review before merging.

  • 🎨 for a non-blocking comment that proposes a refactor or cleanup. The pull request author does not have to address the comment for the pull request to merge.

  • ⚠️ for a blocking comment that must be addressed before the pull request can merge. The comment's author should leave a Request Changes review, and is responsible for re-reviewing once the pull request author has addressed the issue.

  • 😻 for a comment that compliments the author for their work.

Embedding GoLang into a Ruby application - Blogpost to Magrathealabs

Go Title

I am passionate about Ruby, but its execution time compared to other languages is extremely high, especially when we want to use more complex algorithms. In general, data structures in interpreted languages become incredibly slow compared to compiled languages. Some algorithms such as ´n-body´ and ´fannkuch-redux´ can be up to 30 times slower in Ruby than Go. This is one of the reasons I was interested in embedding Go code in a Ruby environment.

For those who do not know how shared libraries operate, they work in a similar way as DLLs in Windows. However, they have a native code with a direct interface to the C compiler.

Note Windows uses the DLL system, and in this case, this does not necessarily have to be in native code.

One example is DLLs written in C#, which runs on a virtual machine. Because I do not use windows, I ended up not testing if it is poss

Ableist Language in Code: Sanity Check

Ableist Language in Code: Sanity Check

Removing ableist language in code is important; it helps to create and maintain an environment that welcomes all developers of all backgrounds, while emphasizing that we as developers select the most articulate, precise, descriptive language we can rather than relying on metaphors. Quite simply, avoiding ableist language lets us make sure we are inclusive of all developers, while moving toward language that is simultaneously more acccessible to developers whose first language might not be our own.

The phrase sanity check is ableist, and unnecessarily references mental health in our code bases. It denotes that people with mental illnesses are inferior, wrong, or incorrect, and the phrase sanity continues to be used by employers and other individuals to discriminate against these people.

There are a ton of alternatives, and one of the best ways to select one is to ask yourself: What am I actually checking? and select something more descriptive. In everyday c

Sublime to Vim

  • Use Control+W instead of Alt+Backspace
  • To unindent a line, use Ctrl+D
  • To indent a line, use Ctrl+T
  • Upper-case J joins lines (same as Cmd+J in Sublime Text)
  • Use :edit! to force a reload of the current file from disk.
  • To skip to the first non-whitespace character on a line, press ^
  • yy copies (yanks) a line

Below are simple styles to "flatten" bootstrap. I didn't go through every control and widget that bootstrap offers, only what was required for https://commando.io, so your milage may vary.
