Extract Netgear .chk Firmware

I recently ran into a situation where binwalk -M -e $FIRMWARE failed me. This was for a Netgear firmware image that ended in a .chkextension.

The firmware file name was R7960P-V1.0.1.34_1.0.20.chk.

This is the output when I ran binwalk R7960P-V1.0.1.34_1.0.20.chk:

$ binwalk R7960P-V1.0.1.34_1.0.20.chk

I'm getting adverts in my TV's UI, help!

Samsung's otherwise excellent 2016 range of UHD TVs received an update that added advertisements to the UI. This has been complained about at great length on Samsung's forums and repeatedly, Samsung have refused to add an option to remove them.

The ads interrupt the clean UI of the TV and are invasive. Here's an example of how they look:

This guide was originally posted on Samsung's TV forums but unfortunately, that site is a super-slow and barely accessible unusable mess.

Exposing a directory on the host machine to an LXC container

1. Log into the container and create an empty directory, this will be the mount point
2. Log out and stop the container.
3. Open to your container's config file
   • For regular LXC containers: /var/lib/lxc/mycontainer/config
   • For unprivileged LXC containers: $HOME/.local/share/lxc/mycontainer/config
4. Add a new line above the lxc.mount directive, that follows the format below. Substitute proper paths as necessary:
   • lxc.mount.entry = /path/to/folder/on/host /path/to/mount/point none bind 0 0

• Both of these paths are relative to the host machine.
