Me: I could make it really easy on you, if you think Apollo is costing you $20 million per year, cut me a check for $10 million and we can both skip off into the sunset. Six months of use. We're good. That's mostly a joke.

Reddit: Six months of use? What do you mean? I know you said that was mostly a joke, but I want to take everything you're saying seriously just to make sure I'm not - what are you referring to?

Me: Okay, if Apollo's opportunity cost currently is $20 million dollars. At the 7 billion requests and API volume. If that's your yearly opportunity cost for Apollo, cut that in half, say for 6 months. Bob's your uncle.

Reddit: You cut out right at the end. I'm not asking you to repeat yourself for a third time, but you legit cut out right at the end. "If your opportunity cost is $10 million" and then I lost you.

Exposing zfs snapshot to windows previous version using samba vfs_shadow_copy2

Exposing zfs snapshot to windows previous version using samba vfs_shadow_copy2

This was much trickier than I had originally anticipated and have spent a few hours testing.

The config from samba wiki absolutely works, but it wasn't ranked higher in search engine and it's not general enough. https://github.com/zfsonlinux/zfs-auto-snapshot/wiki/Samba

Tested on ubuntu 22.04LTS, samba 4.15.9 and windows 11.

TLDR

Byobu (over SSH) Cheat Sheet

Byobu (over SSH) Cheat Sheet

I often find myself using Byobu on a Linux machine when connected to it over SSH. In doing so, I've noticed that many of the documented keyboard shortcuts don't work. This can be due to the native PC's OS intercepting certain keys, or possibly other reasons.

Below is a cheatsheet with Byobu features I have found usually work when run over a SSH connection.

Action Windows + Putty to Ubuntu MacOS + Terminal to Ubuntu
Help menu BASH: byobu-config FN-F1
Create new window CTRL-a c CTRL-a c or FN-F2

Download a file from a URL using Node.js

Download File from URL

Proof-of-concept to download a file from a URL and save it locally. For example, I may wish to retrieve a JAR file from Nexus.

Uses the http package, which does the basics with raw HTTP protocol support.

Possible update: use request, it is like the Python's requests library. There is a companion package called node-request-progress that tracks download progress. See request-progress on GitHub.

Note: The request package has been deprecated.

Arch Linux Full-Disk Encryption Installation Guide [Encrypted Boot, UEFI, NVMe, Evil Maid]

Arch Linux Full-Disk Encryption Installation Guide

This guide provides instructions for an Arch Linux installation featuring full-disk encryption via LVM on LUKS and an encrypted boot partition (GRUB) for UEFI systems.

Following the main installation are further instructions to harden against Evil Maid attacks via UEFI Secure Boot custom key enrollment and self-signed kernel and bootloader.

Preface

You will find most of this information pulled from the Arch Wiki and other resources linked thereof.

Note: The system was installed on an NVMe SSD, substitute /dev/nvme0nX with /dev/sdX or your device as needed.

Install Anaconda on Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL)

Thanks everyone for commenting/contributing! I made this in college for a class and I no longer really use the technology. I encourage you all to help each other, but I probably won't be answering questions anymore.

This article is also on my blog, too.

Note: $ denotes the start of a command. Don't actually type this.

Steps to Install Anaconda on Windows Ubuntu Terminal

  1. Install WSL (Ubuntu for Windows - can be found in Windows Store). I recommend the latest version (I'm using 18.04) because there are some bugs they worked out during 14/16 (microsoft/WSL#785)
  2. Go to https://repo.continuum.io/archive to find the list of Anaconda releases
  3. Select the release you want. I have a 64-bit computer, so I chose the latest release ending in x86_64.sh. If I had a 32-bit computer, I'd select the x86.sh version. If you accidentally try to install the wrong one, you'll get a warning in the terminal. I chose `Ana
