Clerk Integration - Turing

Clerk: Authentication and User Management

Authentication is always important, but it can take a lot of time to integrate into a project, especially for someone at the beginning of their developer journey. Clerk provides out of the box authentication and user management that can be set up in minutes, allowing you to focus on what makes your application unique. This guide will show you how to start a new application using Clerk to manage your users and their permissions. We're going to walk through how to use Clerk with a React application, but Clerk also has integrations for Next.js, Gatsby, Node/Express, React Native and Expo. Check out the docs for more information.

Create Clerk Application

The first thing you want to do is go to the Clerk Dashboard and create a new account. Then click Add application to create your first Clerk App. Clerk's free tier supports up to 500 monthly active users.

Propose a ballot initiative

1.

Access information on the ballot initiative process (laws, guidelines, deadlines).

2.

Have a checklist of tasks to accomplish for each step of proposing an initiative. When the collection of tasks is completed the user moves on the the next collection.

3.

The user can see a heat map of where people have expressed interest in their initiative.

Mod 2 Week 1: Creating Your Vision, Part I

Start Where You Are (Empathize with the user -- you):

Health: how you answer “how are you”; intersection of physical, mental, and emotional health

How would you rate your overall health on a scale of 1-5?

  • 2-3?

How do you currently make time for activities associated with your health?

  • I don't really, I tend to only respond to my body's needs when I notice them. I will suddenly realize I haven't had anything to eat, or done any exercise.

What is a small change you could make here to readjust your health ratings?

Mod 3 Intermission Deliverables

  • What is a "framework?" And how does it differ from a "library?"

Both a framework and a library are collections of code written by someone else. A library is a collection of class definitions that can be implemented into your code without having to rewrite them each time. A framework is a more complicated skeleton with specific places for a developer to write functionality. With a library, the user calls the code and has much more control over the rules that must be followed. In a framework, the framework calls your code and there are more strict rules that you must follow to have the code function correctly.

  • Why should we consider using a framework over vanilla JS like you have been doing in mods 1 and 2?

The main benefit of using a framework (or a library) is code reusability. It can be time-consuming and error-prone to rewrite the same functions over and over again. Frameworks provide a tested and predictable structure on which developers can build their apps. Fra
