You’ve included some relevant examples of data visualization and mapping. In your estimation, is the Girl Effect Grid similar to these examples, or does it differ in ambition and if so, in what way? (If not, please could you provide more information on the most relevant example and ways in which the products are similar?)

Our proposal for the Girl Effect is most similar in scope to the included example of the Pacific Rim Coordination Center site. This site combines a narrative with changing map layers, to display and explain the unique vulnerabilities that each region faces regarding natural disasters. Additionally, the Pacific Rim Center makes all layers available for download in the open data section, just like we intend for the Girl Hub as an open data center.

Another relevant example is our work with Amnesty International's Demand Justice Now campaign. Our map introduces viewers tp the international justice infrastructure, display

Hi everyone,

We've completed all of the adjustments that we agreed upon at the end of our training in Beirut, which I've captured in a list here.

This concludes our work from the first contract with LRI. Please let us know if you run into any other issues or have questions about these adjustments. You can post these questions to Atrium, which we will keep open for at least another month from this point.

Regarding any new changes or features, like we discussed, we could do this work as part of a new smaller contract or just as individual invoices below a certain amount, like Chris suggested.

Hi Damien and Miriam,

First off, we're excited about the work you're doing in education, and we're very interested in helping you further visualize the evidence and stories behind the move from a focus on 'achievement' to 'progress'.

After discussing the discovery phase further, Alex and I decided think it'd be best to engage in this phase only within the framework of a larger product outlined in a contract. So we've outlined two products, each of which impacts the extent to which we engage in an intial assesment/discovery phase. Rough budgets for both options are below.

The first product is a microsite that can be integrated to a site built by someone like Flight Path (this site can also live as a stand alone or have a full screen option). This option is similar in scope to the NPR Census Map, and Amnesty International.

The second product is a much more comprehensive site, resulting in an overhaul of the school view site, with a new design, n

Site Delivery

Hi everyone,

We're exicted to deliver the final site for your feedback. After the last two weeks of working with the data and tweaking the interface, we're confident in the mapping platforms ability to highlight overall trends while easily navigating users to the finer details at the local level. We've written up more explanation below broken down by the major features and componenets of the site.

Highlighting stories with map layer switching

We focused on the biggest story through the two map types -- displaying he percent change in population on medicaid and the uninsured. This immediately reveals the areas most and least affected for both types.

Objectives

By the end of the training participants can:

  • Geocode spreadsheets with geography/address information
  • Use their own data sets to create maps
  • Put their data on top of a their customized world map
  • Embed their maps in their websites, blogs, or save maps as pdfs.
  • Know where to go for documentation to review all steps covered in training, and where to get more advanced information.
