Simple automated GIT Deployment using Hooks

Simple automated GIT Deployment using GIT Hooks

Here are the simple steps needed to create a deployment from your local GIT repository to a server based on this in-depth tutorial.

How it works

You are developing in a working-copy on your local machine, lets say on the master branch. Most of the time, people would push code to a remote server like github.com or gitlab.com and pull or export it to a production server. Or you use a service like deepl.io to act upon a Web-Hook that's triggered that service.

Virtual hosts

Let's say you want to host domains first.com and second.com.

Create folders for their files:

i3 config from /u/twodogsdave
If this is hard to read in your browser, just copy the text and paste it into your editor.
Turn 'line wrapping' on. :)
This is a 'how to' for anyone interested in a i3 setup and also for anyone currently
using i3 and wants to tweak there setup a little more. I am constantly updating my
i3 config with cool 'stuff.' I hope you enjoy reading and if you use some of the code,
great! I don't know everything and am still learning, too. :)
This is my system settings for i3. Specifically, I use [Manjaro i3](https://forum.manjaro.org/index.php?topic=28022.0).

Sublime Text 3 Python VirtualEnvWrapper Build System

Open your package folder (Preferences > Browse packages) and create a file named Python (VirtualEnvWrapper).sublime-build. That will be our build system.

WARNING: Make sure your sublime project name is the same as virtualenvwrapper project name!

Now copy-paste the following JSON:

{
    "shell_cmd": "~/.virtualenvs/$project_base_name/bin/python3 -u \"$file\"",
    "path": "$project_path",

"file_regex": "^[ ]File "(...?)", line ([0-9]*)",

desired exception hierarchy

An Ideal HTTP Exception Hierarchy

Here is how I'd like to group exceptions in urllib3/requests. I would argue that if anyone is catching/handling different types of errors in an HTTP request, they want to know:

  • was my request bad?
  • did my client screw up?
  • is the remote server slow?
  • did the remote server screw up?
  • is it safe to try this request again?

Operational PGP

This is a guide on how to email securely.

There are many guides on how to install and use PGP to encrypt email. This is not one of them. This is a guide on secure communication using email with PGP encryption. If you are not familiar with PGP, please read another guide first. If you are comfortable using PGP to encrypt and decrypt emails, this guide will raise your security to the next level.
