Load Disqus comments only on demand if you give a shit about page weight and your visitors. Even with no comments, i.e. an empty comment form, calling Disqus will load an extra 226Kb. If your page has comments this can be far higher. This Gist accompanies my blog post: http://internet-inspired.com/wrote/load-disqus-on-demand/
// Requires jQuery of course.
$(document).ready(function() {
$('.show-comments').on('click', function(){
var disqus_shortname = 'YOUR-DISQUS-USERNAME'; // Replace this value with *your* username.
// ajax request to load the disqus javascript
$.ajax({
type: "GET",
url: "http://" + disqus_shortname + ".disqus.com/embed.js",
dataType: "script",

Installing SSHPass

Installing SSHPASS

SSHPass is a tiny utility, which allows you to provide the ssh password without using the prompt. This will very helpful for scripting. SSHPass is not good to use in multi-user environment. If you use SSHPass on your development machine, it don't do anything evil.

Installing on Ubuntu

apt-get install sshpass

Installing on OS X

Michael Hoffman's crazy bash_history backer upper on git
1 - Create a *private* GitHub/Bitbucket or similar git repo. Here I assume the repo is:
https://github.com/calkan/bash_history.git
2 - Create .history directory and initialize it for the repo:
mkdir $HOME/.history
cd $HOME/.history
git init
touch README.md
import sys, marshal, functools, subprocess
child_script = """
import marshal, sys, types;
fn, args, kwargs = marshal.load(sys.stdin)
marshal.dump(
types.FunctionType(fn, globals())(*args, **kwargs),
sys.stdout)
"""

OverEncrypt - paranoid HTTPS

OverEncrypt

This is a guide that I wrote to improve the default security of my website https://fortran.io , which has a certificate from LetsEncrypt. I'm choosing to improve HTTPS security and transparency without consideration for legacy browser support.

WARNING: if you mess up settings, lose your certificates, or decide to no longer maintain HTTPS certs, these steps can and will make your domain inaccessible.

I would recommend these steps only if you have a specific need for information security, privacy, and trust with your users, and/or maintain a separate secure.example.com domain which won't mess up your main site. If you've been thinking about hosting a site on Tor, then this might be a good option, too.

The best resources that I've found for explaining these steps are https://https.cio.gov , https://certificate-transparency.org , and https://twitter.com/konklone
