Module 1 Week 1 Diagnostic

This exercise is intended to help you assess your progress with the concepts and techniques we've covered during the week.

For these questions, write a short snippet of code that meets the requirement. Fill in your answers on a second sheet of paper or in your notebook. In cases where the question mentions a "given" data value, use the variable given to refer to it (instead of re-writing the information).

Black Thursday Questionnaire Jason Conrad
What was an opportunity for improvement in your group?
For me personally I would say a more fine eye for detail, Sometimes my test names wouldn't fully represent what it was that I
was trying to test. Over all I feel like Schutte and I worked pretty well together, there was a nice balance of workload between
the two of us, splitting up and working on things separately the coming back and bringing it all together.
What was your role in this project?
Over all we really were good at splitting the workload so if one person was working on seting up for the next iteration the other
person was going back with a fine tooth comb looking at refactoring and making sure things lined up. My favorite thing that I was

Jason Conrad's outline for his lightning talk
Brief intro to VR
quick explanation of Vr and how it works
(Virtual Reality is the use of computer technology to create a simulated environment.)
Hit on some non entertainment uses for VR (used in medicine to help simulate the patients anatomy for diagnosis purposes,
looking at using it to recreate crime scenes for juries to see in trials, virtual museums, and military training)
Start to talk about how it's being used in the entertainment world
- Six Flags Maryland has synced up one of their most popular rides with VR headsets to simulate you flying around Metropolis
with Superman.

Module 4 Goals

Bare Minimun: I would like to have atleast two-three interviews set up or have already gone through them by the end of the mod. Utimate goal: I would like to have one job offer in the pipe-ine by the time I am through mod 4.

Strategy To Achieve Goals:

By Tuesday afternoon of each week I want to have at least 3 cold contact/follow up emails sent. By Thursday afternoon I want to have atleast 5 new companies/cold out reach opportunites found and in the pipeline to contact. Every week I want to fill out and submit atleast one application.

The fireside chat with Jeff and Ingrid was definitely a much needed and much appreciated event for me. Going into this chat I had no idea on what to expect. I haven't had to do a job hunt or interview in about 5 years and most of those interviews were for part time retail positions so the interviews were never really that in depth or intense. Ingird had a lot of great insight (from the do's and dont's of interview ediquitte to the follow up process). I've always found it difficult to do a follow up without coming across like an asshole or like I am desperate and a lot of what she said really put me at ease about that. I feel like just listening to them talk about interviews they remeember that went well and didn't go well really helped give me insight into what I should and shouldn't do. I definitely feel better equipped to take on the interview process now.

M4 Reflection

Fork this gist and answer these questions to reflect on your learning experiences.

  • What brought you to Turing? I was going on working 6+ years in retail and dreaded walking into work everyday. I had been looking at different options with technology for a career and ended up deciding on Software Development as the path I wanted to take. I was looking at a bunch of different options of where I wanted to learn it until I talked to my friend Juhn who had just graduated from Turing and the passion that I heard as he talked about it completely sold me. After attending a few events for the school I knew that it was where I wanted to go.
  • Where do you see yourself after Turing? I see myself working for a company that has a passion for people (both their employees and the customers). I want to help build something with them in mind. I want to build something that somehow enriches people's lives or makes some aspect of their day better and more enjoyable or easier
