Programming media keys on the Ducky One 2 Skyline

Programming Media Keys on the Ducky One 2 Skyline

To use media keys on the Ducky One 2 Skyline, you must record a macro to bind the media function to a hotkey combination, i.e. Fn plus some key.

Example

Important: In the instructions below, "Press X+Y+Z" means press and hold key X, press and hold key Y, press and hold key Z in that order, and then release all three.

As an example, to bind Fn+PgUp to the play/pause media function:

  • Press Fn+2 to activate profile #2. Profile #1 (factory default) is not programmable. Indicator lights will flash twice.
  • Press and hold Fn+Ctrl for 3 seconds to start recording a macro. Indicator lights will flash slowly.
  • Press Fn+PgUp to define the Fn+PgUp hotkey combo. Indicator lights will flash quickly.
  • Press Fn+Win+D to bind the key combo to the play/pause function. Indicator lights will continue to flash quickly.
  • Press Fn+Ctrl to complete recording. Indicator lights will stop flashing.
  • The media key is now bound. Press Fn+PgUp to play/pause.

Resetting

To reset the current profile and clear all bindings, press and hold Win+Space for 3 seconds. The indicator lights will flash for a short while.

Media Key Legend

The following functions can be bound to hotkeys using the method above.

  • Fn+Win+A: Mute
  • Fn+Win+B: Volume Up
  • Fn+Win+C: Volume Down
  • Fn+Win+D: Play/Pause
  • Fn+Win+E: Stop
  • Fn+Win+F: Next Track
  • Fn+Win+G: Previous Track
  • Fn+Win+H: Calculator
  • Fn+Win+I: My Computer
  • Fn+Win+J: Browser
  • Fn+Win+K: Mail
  • Fn+Win+L: Multimedia
  • Fn+Win+M: Search
  • Fn+Win+N: Navigate Backwards
  • Fn+Win+O: Navigate Forwards
  • Fn+Win+P: Mouse Left Click
  • Fn+Win+Q: Mouse Right Click
  • Fn+Win+R: Mouse Middle Click
  • Fn+Win+S: Mouse Cursor Up
  • Fn+Win+T: Mouse Cursor Down
  • Fn+Win+U: Mouse Cursor Left
  • Fn+Win+V: Mouse Cursor Right
  • Fn+Win+W: Mouse Scroll Up
  • Fn+Win+X: Mouse Scroll Down

Thanks a lot for this helpful gist... :) I am using this keyboard with my Mac machine and looking for a way to swap the Windows and Alt buttons. I would like to change it on the keyboard and not in the MacOs. Have you tried this out? Thanks in Advance 👍

@smasetty I didn't get a notification about your message, but yes, this is possible on the keyboard itself. The steps above work for any key-to-key remapping. In your case, the steps would be:

  1. Press Fn+<number> to activate whichever profile you want
  2. Press and hold Fn+Ctrl for 3 seconds to start recording
  3. Press and release a key to specify input (e.g. Alt)
  4. Press and release a key to specify output (e.g. Windows)
  5. Press Fn+Ctrl to complete recording

So, to swap Alt and Windows, you can follow the steps above once to remap Alt to Windows and a second time to remap Windows to Alt.

@smasetty you can use the dip switches on the backsite of your keyboard to archive this.

this was very helpful however is there a way to unbind the calculator button, its really annoying as if you bind the play/pause button to the calculator it launches the calculator as well :/

@schmich Similar to andrej's question, can you rebind the calculator button (or any other button/combo) to a key combination? Such as have the cal button bound to Ctrl+Alt+Num-, for example, and without having it launch the calculator?

EDIT: Bought a One 2. My purpose for this was mainly as a Toggle Mute keybind for Discord. Much easier to disable the calculator launch (add empty ShellExecute string in Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\AppKey\18) and just use the key as an extra bindable key.

As for binding key combinations, it seems to work, but has a significant delay. Binding a single key, even "special" keys like the Fn+Win combos), will create a direct binding with no delay.

Eg:I can lower the volume from 100 to 0 by holding Fn + " [ " ( my combo) but i cant make it 0 to 100 by holding Fn + " ] "

I was thinking of getting one of these keyboards. Does the builtin mousekeys work on Linux/macOS? I think it's Fn+Num Lock to toggle it.

Is it just me, but when I try to do this I keep triggering the window 10 menu because you have to press windows key? is there an alternative method? It also triggers the mouse to move down everytime T_T

Macros are played at the speed you typed them. This can be very frustrating for multiple-keys macros. However, you can change the playback speed for each key in your macro. Check out this article for more info:

Have you found a solution or a workaround for that? I want to do a number of bindings for ctrl + <key>, but it seems impossible (at least if I follow steps from the user manual). At the same time I cannot find any restrictions for ctrl + <key>, ctrl + alt + <key>, etc. in the manual.

ORIGINAL QUESTION: How can I rebind the calculator key to open another program?

ANSWER :
Go to Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\AppKey\18 and change the calc.exe to whatever program you like to launch

@goobliata This is a pretty late answer, but the built-in mouse movement and keys accessed via Fn+Num Lock work in Linux (in Ubuntu anyhow).

Hiiiii I just got a this keyboard and I'm having a hard time creating a macro. I want F1 to have the sequence "ADADADA" repeated and F3 to have a sequence that is just "space bar" over and over again. Is this possible? Can anyone help me with this? Thanks!

@Andyn3o doesn't seem possible because it's a macro key unfortunately.. I wish there was a way to remap the key not make it a macro, pretty terrible in most cases.

@christoshrousis Yea you can press the windows key next to the FN seems to be the proper key to do the special characters, the left winkey is the wrong key for it. It seems to add a super+ special character if you do it that way (tested with XEV on linux)

I think you can press FN+2 before the actual macro is recorded and it forces your macro to NOT have a timer instead us e0.01ms in between keys or something. (should be added to the git)
Also this github works for all ducky 2 boards, it isn't specific to the skyline board.

Perfect, thank you.

One small thing: the key bindings provided for each media key is about the position, not the letter. For example, on an AZERTY keyboard, Mute and Mouse Right Click are swapped (Fn+Win+A and Fn+Win+Q).

Anyone else having an issue where after binding a play/pause key, the dedicated volume buttons cease to function? Sometimes they don't work at all, and other times they act as the play/pause button.

I have an issue similar to this. I had mapped Play/Pause on a key but it doesn't work any more and I am not able to map it again. I tried resetting the keyboard but I'm not sure it was a full reset I did.
