Keychron keyboards on Linux + Bluetooth fixes

Here is the best setup (I think so :D) for K-series Keychron keyboards on Linux.

Note: many newer Keychron keyboards use QMK as firmware and most tips here do not apply to them. Maybe the ones related to Bluetooth can be useful, but everything related to Apple's keyboard module (hid_apple) on Linux, won't work. As far as I know, all QMK-based boards use the hid_generic module instead. Examples of QMK-based boards are: Q, Q-Pro, V, K-Pro, etc.

Most of these commands have been tested on Ubuntu 20.04 and should also work on most Debian-based distributions. If a command happens not to work for you, take a look in the comment section.

Make Fn + F-keys work (NOT FOR QMK-BASED BOARDS)

Older Keychron keyboards (those not based on QMK) use the hid_apple driver on Linux, even in the Windows/Android mode, both in Bluetooth and Wired modes.

CircleCI does not support checks for existence of a cache key without restoring the full cache. Save a tiny key in parallel with the cache to allow bailing out faster if the cache already exists. More documentation on the approach and the code I started from (thanks TzookB!) is here: https://tzookb.com/circleci-project-deepdive
commands:
halt_if_cache_exists:
description: Halt a build if a cache already exists, without downloading the entire cache. Match only exact key. Pair with mark_cache_existence.
parameters:
category:
description: friendly name of the sort of cache (e.g. bundle, src)
type: string
key:
description: hash key where underlying data would be stored

Dynamically Add Critical CSS to Your Rails App

Dynamically Add Critical CSS to Your Rails App

Optimizing the delivery of CSS is one way to improve user experience, load speed and SEO of your web app. This involves determining the "critical path CSS" and embeding it into the html of your page. The rest of the CSS for the site is loaded asynchronously so it does not block the rendering of your "above the fold" content. This Gist will show you how to dynamically generate critical path CSS for your Rails app.

In this example we will use the mudbugmedia/critical-path-css gem.

Prerequisites

You will need to set up caching and Active Job in your Rails app. I recommend using a thread-safe background job manager like resque.

Recovering deleted files in Ubuntu with ext4 filesystem

Recently, I deleted some files by mistake in a Ubuntu machine with an ext4 fs. These notes document the steps I took to get them back.

Important

  • this procedure assumes that the partition that contained the deleted files is different from the root partition, as that was the scenario with which I had to deal (deleted files were in my home dir). The procedure needs that the partition that contained the files is unmounted, so if the deleted files were in the root partition, the process would be a bit different (e.g. storing the fs journal in a USB stick, using a live CD/USB to boot and issue the commands, etc.)
  • if something is not clear, you need more information, etc. check the sources below

With that out the way, let's begin.

Launch Chromium with API Keys on Mac OS X and Windows

Last Updated: March 2023

IMPORTANT: Ignore the out-of-date steps below for getting Chromium keys.

Instead, read this up-to-date guide (Jan 2023) written by @LearningToPi.

P.S. Thank you to every contributor below who provided tips over the years on what should be a straightforward process: setting up Chromium for local development.

Long live the web!

Recategorización de Monotributo

Para recategorizarte en el Monotributo, la aplicación de AFIP da error de Javascript por todos lados. A menos que entres con Internet Explorer...

Para hacer el trámite en Chrome, Firefox o cualquier browser decente:

  1. Ingresar a la AFIP (Acceso con Clave Fiscal)
  2. Ir a Sistema Registral
  3. Hacer click en la lupa
  4. Registro tributario > Monotributo
  5. Este es el 1er formulario que se rompe. Hay dos soluciones:
