The CouchDB replicator database

1. Introduction to the replicator database

A database where you PUT/POST documents to trigger replications and you DELETE to cancel ongoing replications. These documents have exactly the same content as the JSON objects we used to POST to /_replicate/ (fields "source", "target", "create_target", "continuous", "doc_ids", "filter", "query_params".

Replication documents can have a user defined "_id". Design documents (and _local documents) added to the replicator database are ignored.

The default name of this database is _replicator. The name can be changed in the .ini configuration, section [replicator], parameter db.

Code highlighting for Keynote presentations

Step 0:

Get Homebrew installed on your mac if you don't already have it

Step 1:

Install highlight. "brew install highlight". (This brings down Lua and Boost as well)

Step 2:

Meaning of process state codes (C column) on `ps` output

PROCESS STATE CODES

Here are the different values that the s, stat and state output specifiers (header "STAT" or "S") will display to describe the state of a process.

CODE Meaning
D Uninterruptible sleep (usually IO)
R Running or runnable (on run queue)
S Interruptible sleep (waiting for an event to complete)
T Stopped, either by a job control signal or because it is being traced.
W paging (not valid since the 2.6.xx kernel)

Swift Extensions: NSTimer

NSTimer is a great example of an over-verbose, outdated Objective-C API. To run a simple line of code after a delay, you need to write a lot of boilerplate crap.

How about this:

NSTimer.schedule(5.seconds) {
  println("Hello world!")
}

using Include in sequelize

'Include' in Sequelize: The One Confusing Query That You Should Memorize

When querying your database in Sequelize, you'll often want data associated with a particular model which isn't in the model's table directly. This data is usually typically associated through join tables (e.g. a 'hasMany' or 'belongsToMany' association), or a foreign key (e.g. a 'hasOne' or 'belongsTo' association).

When you query, you'll receive just the rows you've looked for. With eager loading, you'll also get any associated data. For some reason, I can never remember the proper way to do eager loading when writing my Sequelize queries. I've seen others struggle with the same thing.

Eager loading is confusing because the 'include' that is uses has unfamiliar fields is set in an array rather than just an object.

So let's go through the one query that's worth memorizing to handle your eager loading.

The Basic Query
