Using synonyms in Elasticsearch

We create an index with:

  • two filters: synonyms_expand and synonyms_contract
  • two analyzers: synonyms_expand and synonyms_contract
  • three text fields:
    • text_1 uses the synonyms_expand analyzer at index and search time
    • text_2 uses the synonyms_expand analyzer at index time, but the standard analyzer at search time
    • text_3 uses the synonyms_contract analyzer at index and search time

Below are simple styles to "flatten" bootstrap. I didn't go through every control and widget that bootstrap offers, only what was required for https://commando.io, so your milage may vary.

  • Use Control+W instead of Alt+Backspace
  • To unindent a line, use Ctrl+D
  • To indent a line, use Ctrl+T

Ableist Language in Code: Sanity Check

Ableist Language in Code: Sanity Check

Removing ableist language in code is important; it helps to create and maintain an environment that welcomes all developers of all backgrounds, while emphasizing that we as developers select the most articulate, precise, descriptive language we can rather than relying on metaphors. Quite simply, avoiding ableist language lets us make sure we are inclusive of all developers, while moving toward language that is simultaneously more acccessible to developers whose first language might not be our own.

The phrase sanity check is ableist, and unnecessarily references mental health in our code bases. It denotes that people with mental illnesses are inferior, wrong, or incorrect, and the phrase sanity continues to be used by employers and other individuals to discriminate against these people.

There are a ton of alternatives, and one of the best ways to select one is to ask yourself: What am I actually checking? and select something more descriptive. In everyday c

Embedding GoLang into a Ruby application - Blogpost to Magrathealabs

Go Title

I am passionate about Ruby, but its execution time compared to other languages is extremely high, especially when we want to use more complex algorithms. In general, data structures in interpreted languages become incredibly slow compared to compiled languages. Some algorithms such as ´n-body´ and ´fannkuch-redux´ can be up to 30 times slower in Ruby than Go. This is one of the reasons I was interested in embedding Go code in a Ruby environment.

For those who do not know how shared libraries operate, they work in a similar way as DLLs in Windows. However, they have a native code with a direct interface to the C compiler.

Note Windows uses the DLL system, and in this case, this does not necessarily have to be in native code.

One example is DLLs written in C#, which runs on a virtual machine. Because I do not use windows, I ended up not testing if it is poss
