this is the nginx config for https://mike.tig.as/, with config to avoid the BEAST exploit (by using TLS 1.2+ ciphers or RC4) and enable SSL perfect forward secrecy (by preferring ECDHE ciphers)

[mike.tig.as][mta] server configuration

This gist contains the nginx and tor configurations for the [mike.tig.as][mta] servers, mainly to show:

  • Use of the chris-lea/nginx-devel PPA to allow use of SPDY.
  • ssl_ciphers selection to mitigate BEAST attack, enable [perfect forward secrecy][pfs] if possible and select the strongest possible ciphers within those bounds. (Exception is made for several ciphers at the end of list, for compatibility reasons.)

minteye is a captcha system where you try to find the original image out of distorted ones. They also have a feature list on their website but they forgot the view from a computer. I fixed it:

minteye captcha features

There are two ways to crack this captcha easily. I've used the audio challange. There are three different kind of audio messages.

  1. move the slider to the right
  2. move the slider to the left
  3. slider is in the correct position

Post explaining why objects often use less memory than arrays (in PHP)

Why objects (usually) use less memory than arrays in PHP

This is just a small post in response to [this tweet][tweet] by Julien Pauli (who by the way is the release manager for PHP 5.5). In the tweet he claims that objects use more memory than arrays in PHP. Even though it can be like that, it's not true in most cases. (Note: This only applies to PHP 5.4 or newer.)

The reason why it's easy to assume that objects are larger than arrays is because objects can be seen as an array of properties and a bit of additional information (like the class it belongs to). And as array + additional info > array it obviously follows that objects are larger. The thing is that in most cases PHP can optimize the array part of it away. So how does that work?

The key here is that objects usually have a predefined set of keys, whereas arrays don't:

Running cron jobs in AWS Auto Scaling group is tricky. When you deploy the same code and configuration to all instances in the group, cron job would run on all of them. You may not want that. This script detects the first instance in the group and allows only this instance to run the job. IAM user used by this script needs to have permissions to…

DDD/CQRS/ES/Architecture videos

If you have two days to learn the very basics of modelling, Domain-Driven Design, CQRS and Event Sourcing, here's what you should do:

In the evenings read the [Domain-Driven Design Quickly Minibook]{http://www.infoq.com/minibooks/domain-driven-design-quickly}. During the day watch following great videos (in this order):

  1. Eric Evans' [What I've learned about DDD since the book]{http://www.infoq.com/presentations/ddd-eric-evans}
  2. Eric Evans' [Strategic Design - Responsibility Traps]{http://www.infoq.com/presentations/design-strategic-eric-evans}
  3. Udi Dahan's [Avoid a Failed SOA: Business & Autonomous Components to the Rescue]{http://www.infoq.com/presentations/SOA-Business-Autonomous-Components}

Service script for dashing. Update DASHING_DIR variable, add this file to /etc/init.d/ , chmod to 755, and let update rc.d with $ sudo update-rc.d dashboard defaults This scripts stops the dashing service with "killall thin" which will kill all thin services running on your server.
